Spices are a part of our daily diet for aroma, taste, colour, flavour and as a preservative. They are also used in traditional medicines for the treatment of many diseases from ancient times. DNA is the material of inheritance and controls the structure and function of cells, and hence a major target for antiviral, anticancer and antibiotic drugs. Probing the interaction between drug molecules and DNA is very helpful in understanding the molecular mechanisms of the drug action and hence for designing new and specific DNA–targeted drugs.
